Honoring Service and Securing Justice: Christopher Madeksho Leads $ 14 Million+ Asbestos Verdict in Landmark Case
At Madeksho Law, we fight every day to ensure that those harmed by asbestos exposure receive the justice they deserve. Recently, we were proud to stand beside a truly extraordinary family and help deliver a verdict that honored the life and legacy of Navy veteran Donald Maier.
Mr. Maier served his country with pride and was known as a hardworking, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Tragically, his life was cut short due to asbestos exposure during his time in the Navy. Despite the challenges of a Navy-only exposure case and a defense that offered nothing throughout the trial, the jury listened closely—and spoke clearly.
Led by Chris Madeksho, with collaboration from Marc A. Lowe and Vinson Law, our team secured a decisive jury verdict against Mundet/Crown Cork & Seal:
- $7.95 million in compensatory damages
- $6.6 million in punitive damages
The trial took place under intense external pressures, including local protests and disruptions in Los Angeles, but the team’s focus never wavered. Over just four days, they built a compelling case with expert testimony, powerful video depositions, and moving accounts from those closest to Mr. Maier.
In the face of efforts to disqualify key damages and evidence, the jury ultimately held the defendant accountable—assigning 49% liability to Crown Cork & Seal and acknowledging the profound personal loss suffered by the Maier family.
This verdict is not just about compensation. It’s a statement that the lives of veterans like Donald Maier matter. Corporations cannot evade accountability. And that with the right team, even the most challenging cases can result in justice.
We’re proud of this outcome and even prouder to dedicate it to Mr. Maier’s service and memory.
